The Natural Life Park of Izmir hosting around 1500 animals of 120 different species hosted the first meeting of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria in Turkey.

Representatives from countries such as Holland, Germany and Turkey, authorities from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Turkish zoologists attended the Project that aimed at protecting sloth bears as animals that are to become extinct.

The Bear Group of EAZA is making progress with its effort that is initiated by the Netherlander Rhenen Zoological Garden under the leadership of Jose Kok.  The Group asked for support from the Natural Life Park of Izmir in order to intensify the study related to the protection of sloth bears. It was agreed that a pair of sloth bears were going to be dispatched to Izmir within the scope of this Project. The bears to be produced under the suitable circumstances in Izmir shall then be dispatched to the Zoological Gardens in Europe.
